00323 - Operation Pitting Unframed Artwork, Operation Pitting was a British military mission in August 2021 to evacuate British nationals and eligible Afghans from Afghanistan during the Taliban's rapid takeover. Involving over 1,000 personnel from 16 Air Assault Brigade, the operation successfully airlifted more than 15,000 people to safety, making it the largest British evacuation since World War II. This operation fulfilled the UK’s commitment to relocate Afghans at risk due to their support of British forces, marking the conclusion of the UK's 20-year military presence in Afghanistan.
